Equinix Expands in Monterrey With Second Data Center MO2
Equinix has officially inaugurated its second data center in Monterrey, MO2, following an initial investment of US$81 million. The facility adds more than 720 cabinets to Equinix Mexico’s operational capacity, with the total projected investment expected to reach approximately US$189 million once all development phases are completed.
“Monterrey is a key region for Mexico's growth as an industrial and technological hub, with rising demand for digital infrastructure from multinational companies, content providers, and collaboration platforms,” said Amet Novillo, managing director, Equinix Mexico.
The expansion responds to sustained demand for digital infrastructure services, driven by accelerated AI adoption, nearshoring trends, and the need for low-latency connectivity solutions. According to Next Move Strategy Consulting, Mexico’s data center market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.71%, reaching US$8.765 million by 2030, fueled by the localization of critical workloads, cloud adoption, and the development of interconnected digital ecosystems closer to end users.
Mexico has emerged as a leading digital infrastructure market in Latin America, leveraging its proximity to the United States for cross-border interconnection. Monterrey, in particular, has become a key node due to its industrial base, connectivity, and integration into the regional digital economy.
