Microsoft has announced the availability of the first data center region in Mexico, located in Queretaro, which will provide local and international access to scalable, highly available, and resilient cloud services. "Microsoft sees a great opportunity for the cloud to accelerate innovation and support people across the country to transform their businesses, explore new entrepreneurship opportunities and help solve some of the world's most complex problems," said Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft, back in 2020 when the company announced the project.
According to Microsoft, this venture offers highly available, scalable, and secure cloud services throughout the country, with the option of data residency and improved latency in national territory. The new cloud region, located in the Queretaro metropolitan area, provides security, privacy and performance, thus contributing to the acceleration of the digital transition of organizations and public entities in Latin America.
Mexico thus becomes Microsoft's first data center region in Spanish-speaking Latin America, joining the company's more than 60 cloud regions distributed around the world. This hyperscale infrastructure allows customers to quickly adjust their systems to meet growing demand, serving both Mexican companies that need to run services on national territory and global organizations that want to leverage the Mexican region to accelerate their own digital transformation.
According to the company's study, this new data center region will help drive economic growth and contribute to the creation of job opportunities to sustain digital innovation, generating more than 110,000 opportunities for professional services, nearly 52,000 in trade, 43,000 in finance, 58,000 in manufacturing and 40,000 for communication and media, including direct and indirect positions.
Microsoft has also recognized the importance of technology training and has worked closely with local partners and NGOs to train more than 1.3 million Mexicans in different skills over the past two years. More than 65,000 people are expected to be trained in Information Technology by 2027.
“With our new cloud data center region in Mexico, we are empowering Mexican organizations to take advantage of the opportunities of the digital age, to more easily scale their operations internationally, and to help them meet and exceed customers' expectations during this period of intense innovation and beyond," says Tito Arciniega, President, Microsoft Latin America.
Among the organizations that will benefit from this project are Kio Networks, MCM Telecom, and Megaport, key partners of Microsoft Express Route, which offer a new set of digital connectivity solutions for public and private organizations in Mexico. The alliance with Microsoft will allow these companies to offer customers a more secure and reliable way to access Azure cloud services.
According to Microsoft's press release, Microsoft's hyperscale cloud data center region will begin operations with customers such as Binaria ID and DocSolutions, among others. According to DocSolutions, a company specialized in document management automation, early access to cloud services in Microsoft's data center region in Mexico has accelerated deployment automation processes for its customers in the regulated sector, reinforced by Microsoft's certifications in its data centers. Meanwhile, Binaria ID has been able to further strengthen the trust and digital certainty of its customers by having greater control of the data in Mexican territory under the early access service in Mexico.
According to Microsoft, the impact of these new facilities is expected to spread to various industries, generating employment, fostering innovation and strengthening Mexico's position as an attractive destination for investment and business growth.
