Organizations are eager to harness emerging technologies like 5G, Artificial Intelligence and IoT to enhance their business operations and drive profitability forward. However, as organizations integrate these technologies into their operations, their attack surface increases, exposing them to a growing number of sophisticated cyberattacks. In fact, a recent study led by HPE Aruba Networking revealed that 91% of IT specialists view emerging technologies as a significant cybersecurity threat or acknowledge having experienced a breach following their implementation.

Emerging technologies offer significant benefits to organizations, such as improving operational efficiency, employee productivity and cutting costs. This is seemingly substantiated by Deloitte findings that state, "organizations with a leading innovation maturity are nearly twice as likely as the average [organization] to experience a revenue increase of over 20%."  However, enterprises harbor concerns that the adoption of emerging technologies not only opens the door to an increasing number of cyberthreats but also elevates the risk of data breaches, financial setbacks and potential damage to their hard-earned reputation.

Of the IT specialists surveyed by HPE Aruba Networking, 65% confirmed their organizations’ willingness to invest in emerging technologies has been obstructed by cybersecurity concerns. Furthermore, the study highlights a growing awareness among IT specialists of the pivotal importance of an organization’s network in business transformation, especially in relation to both security and innovation. However, 66% of IT specialists express concerns about their organization’s readiness to keep up with the latest technological trends.

“Business needs have evolved and teams are increasingly deploying new technologies to meet these needs. However, security measures that can support the rise of emerging tech must evolve alongside them,” said Scott Calzia, Marketing VP, HPE Aruba Networking. To address these challenges, HPE Aruba Networking advises IT specialists and CIOs to adopt a unified Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) approach to effectively manage security risks, improve network performance and enhance employee experience without compromising their digitalization and innovation goals.

The SASE approach is particularly beneficial for organizations with dispersed, mobile and cloud-based workforces, as it enables "organizations to apply secure access no matter where their users, applications or devices are located," according to Palo Alto Networks. However, only 47% of IT leaders believe their networks are equipped to support flexible enterprise security such as SASE.

“While pressure to innovate is not going to ease, IT leaders need to find a secure, streamlined way to overcome the risk conundrum. This requires a unified SASE (SSE + SD-WAN) approach to bring together all disparate network technologies and truly deliver a network capable of supporting safe innovation," explained Calzia.

In Mexico, the information and communications technology (ICT) market is expected to experience a growth of 5.8% during 2023, as forecasted by the consulting firm Select. This growth is largely attributed to the increasing interest in efficient and flexible network solutions capable of driving innovation among organizations while ensuring cybersecurity resilience, with public cloud services expected to make the most substantial contribution.
