The General Directorate of Service Management, Cybersecurity, and Technological Development under the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has issued an alert regarding the escalating threat of online fraud and offered recommendations to help citizens safeguard themselves against cybercriminal activities.
The SSPC highlighted that the increasing ease of shopping on digital platforms has opened the door for cybercriminals to exploit unsuspecting users. Through ongoing monitoring, the agency has identified various common scams, including fake websites masquerading as legitimate online stores, messages promising free mobile data, bogus luxury car giveaways, and fraudulent recipes requiring small payments, among others.
To mitigate these threats, the SSPC encourages citizens to stay alert and implement essential preventive measures.
-
Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or downloading files from unverified sources.
-
Verify the authenticity of websites and offers before making purchases or financial transactions.
-
Activate spam filters on email accounts to block harmful messages, and exercise caution with deals that seem too good to be true.
Should anyone fall victim to online fraud, the SSPC advises reporting the incident to their local Cyber Police Unit, contacting 088, or consulting the SSPC’s Cyber Guide, available at Ciberguía SSPC.
