The Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) inaugurated the "Diploma in Cybersecurity Management", presented by Herlinda Montiel Sánchez, Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology Department Director. This program aims to analyze and establish best practices for protecting digital systems and personal data within an environment increasingly prone to cyber-attacks.

The diploma course, inaugurated on February 7, not only focuses on protecting digital assets against cyber threats but also adopts a proactive mindset to address risks in a comprehensive manner. Embracing an integrated approach that encompasses technical, organizational, and human aspects, the program aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify cyber risks and threats and respond effectively through proven strategies and organizational models.

The 120-hour program aims to cultivate these capabilities through the review of topics such as cybersecurity best practices, regulatory issues, requirements for certified cybersecurity systems, technology trends, cryptography basics, and data governance. This comprehensive approach, as noted by UNAM, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify cyber risks and threats and respond effectively through proven strategies and organizational models.

"Effective cybersecurity management not only involves protecting an organization's digital assets against cyber threats, but also adopting a proactive mindset that addresses risks in a comprehensive manner and ensures the continuity of academic, industrial, and service delivery activities" said Sánchez.

It also advocates for close collaboration between different stakeholders, according to the UNAM  Department Director. "Successful experiences show that it is important to establish trusting relationships with business partners, service providers, and regulatory bodies to share information and best practices," Sánchez added. In fact, the initiative has received a positive response from companies, state governments, civil organizations and the federal government, according to the diploma academic coordinator, José Luis Solleiro.

The specialized diploma program is a product of a strategic collaboration between Huawei Technologies Mexico and UNAM, stemming from the recognized necessity to approach cybersecurity with a more strategic and managerial lens. Participation in cybersecurity roundtables, coordinated by the Federal Telecommunications Institute, confirmed the importance of raising cybersecurity awareness and providing training for management personnel and decision-makers.

UNAM, making clear its commitment to cybersecurity education and training, stated that it not only seeks to strengthen digital security but also to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing on a crucial topic. The expansion of this diploma course demonstrates the recognition of the importance of cybersecurity in contemporary society and the need for effective management to address constantly evolving challenges.

Ernesto Ibarra Sánchez, President, Mexican Academy of Cybersecurity and Digital Law (AMCID), praised the relevance of the diploma course in an interconnected world, highlighting how personal information is constantly being collected through internet-connected devices.
