Retail chains, department stores, and small businesses in Mexico are collaborating to provide employment opportunities for repatriated workers. The initiative aims to strengthen the retail sector and boost domestic consumption, which has faced challenges in recent months.

Francisco Cervantes, President, Business Coordinating Council (CCE) announced that approximately 55,000 jobs are expected to be created for repatriated workers. The National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (ANTAD) and the National Alliance of Small Retailers (ANPEC) view this as an opportunity to integrate experienced workers into the retail sector.

Diego Cosío, Executive president, ANTAD, highlighted that many repatriated workers have experience in retail and hospitality from their time in the United States, making them well-suited for available positions. While the exact number of job openings has yet to be determined, Cosío confirmed ANTAD members’ commitment to hiring returning workers.

Small Businesses and Logistics Roles

Cuauhtémoc Rivera, President, ANPEC, emphasized that small retailers are particularly seeking delivery personnel, a role critical for competing with e-commerce platforms. Other available positions include general assistants for store restocking, wholesale markets, and food businesses.

Rivera noted that with an estimated 1,200 repatriated workers arriving in Mexico daily, the focus is on identifying job opportunities in central and northern states, where most returnees are expected.

Initial states reporting job vacancies include Sonora, Sinaloa, Baja California, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Zacatecas, Puebla, Hidalgo, Queretaro, and Mexico City and its surrounding areas.

Rivera added that the IMSS Bienestar program will streamline the hiring process by facilitating healthcare registration for new employees. “These jobs offer quick placement due to minimal administrative requirements and provide flexible employment options, allowing individuals to supplement their income with multiple jobs,” he explained.
