The Spanish company Eductrade will participate in the construction of a €$15 million (US$16.3 million) energy complex in Colima. The project will be part of the Manuel Álvarez Moreno thermoelectric complex, which integrates 12 power generation units and is considered the largest of its kind in Mexico.

On March 11, 2023, Eductrade announced that it will collaborate in the construction of the energy complex Manzanillo III Generation Plant, in the state of Colima. The project will be developed along with Tyson Projects and Engineering. Eductrade will carry out the construction of the technical buildings, foundations of auxiliary equipment and seawater collection. According to Eductrade’s official web page, the complex will require an investment of €$15.18 million (US$15.56 million).

Harbin Electric International Company, Ltd., is currently building this project for CFE. The utility considers 24 generation projects that are under construction, with a net generation capacity of 13,476MW. Moreover, it is in charge of the Manuel Álvarez Moreno thermoelectric complex, comprising the plants of Manzanillo I and Manzanillo II. The thermal power plant Manzanillo I was inaugurated on January 1, 1982. During its first stage, it comprised four generating units, each with an installed capacity of 300MW. Meanwhile, the Manzanillo II power plant was inaugurated in 1988 with two generating units with an installed capacity of 350MW each, equipped with a steam turbine, an electric generator and a steam generator.

Currently, the thermoelectric complex integrates 12 power generation units: eight of combined cycle and four of dual combustion conventional steam using natural gas, fuel oil or a mixture of both. The units have a total generation capacity of 2,804MW, which is equivalent to 7% of CFE’s total installed capacity, making the Manuel Álvarez Moreno thermoelectric complex the largest in the country.

Eductrade is dedicated to the comprehensive development of projects in the water, energy, health and education sectors. Eductrade’s Water and Energy Division has participated in the construction of different power transmission, distribution and generation projects in Latin America, North Africa and Europe. Eductrade’s subsidiary in Mexico, called Eductrade Infraestructura y Servicios, has over 14 years of experience in the country.
