Q: What is Huawei’s position in Mexico for inverters used in the renewables sector?

A: Huawei entered the PV inverter industry in 2013 and the Mexican solar market in 2017. According to the report, Huawei ranked first for five consecutive years from Wood Mackenzie (GTM Research) and HIS MarkitTM, ranked first in the Latin America & Caribbean PV Inverter Market Share by Shipments. Especially in the Mexican Utility-scale market, Huawei occupy an absolute lead in the market share.

Q: How do you increase the competitiveness of your clients?

A: The core value of Huawei Smart PV Solution is to reduce long-term the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of the PV plant, by increasing power generation and reducing OPEX to help customers achieve long-term commercial success. The biggest difference that tells Huawei Smart PV Solution from the traditional central solution, is the comprehensive integration of automation, digitalization, and intelligence of the solar power plant, which noticeably improves the power generation by refined management of Multiple-MPPT and higher availability, and greatly increase O&M efficiency of the solar power plant by eliminating the vulnerable components (such as DC string box, DC fuse, AC combiner box, air filter and fans of centralized containers) and applying online Smart I-V Curve Diagnosis on the each PV string. By comparing the power generation of PV power plants using Huawei inverters, some obvious advantages have been found against the traditional central inverters. Huawei’s quality is world-class and can achieve 99.996 percent system availability rate, thus ensuring the life cycle of the power plant and long-term efficient and stable generation.

Q: What do you expect to see in the next five years in terms of technology innovation?

A: Huawei recently released the top 10 PV technology trends in the following five years in its headquarters. Huawei mapped out these trends after holding an in-depth discussion with global industry experts, consulting firms, as well as upstream and downstream partners of the industry chain from four dimensions: digitalization, grid friendliness, lower LCOE, and security and trustworthiness. The 10 trends specifically involve: digitalization, AI-driven smart upgrades, unmanned PV plants, proactive support for power grids, solar + storage, virtual power plants (VPP), upgraded safety, higher power density, modular design, and security and trustworthiness. I believe that the 10 trends predicted by Huawei, the global innovation leader, can guide the entire new energy industry by providing a reference for innovation and growth. However, the intelligent world is arriving faster than we anticipated. I think these trends will become realities well before 2025. Some trends are already occurring, such as solar + energy, AI-powered PV, and VPP.

The 10 trends are mainly related to digitalization and ‘All-could’, which are inevitable concepts in the industry. Today, an increasing number of innovations are driven by digital technologies. Therefore, we believe that 5G, cloud, AI, and other technologies are key to innovation and are accelerating the digital transformation of various industries. More importantly, these technologies are integrating with each other and bringing unprecedented revolutionary changes. Everything will be connected online, everything will be connected to the cloud, and AI applications will be ubiquitous, thereby reshaping everything we know today.

Q: What are Huawei’s expectations for 2020?

A: Due to the impact of the pandemic, the development of the entire PV industry will slow down. Huawei will always insist on being customer-centric and bring more value to customers through our continuous technological innovation. We expect Huawei’s market share to continue to grow steadily. But the pursuit of first is not Huawei’s goal. Huawei hopes to bring more contributions to the industry through continuous technological innovations and bring more value to our customers to help our customers achieve success. This year we will deeply integrate AI technology with PV industry, continue to reduce LCOE.

Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational technology company. It provides telecommunications equipment and is headquartered in Shenzhen, China. The company innovates and optimizes throughout the entire life cycle of PV energy generation.
