Deputies Advocate for Biodegradable Cigarette Filters

PAN party deputies proposed an amendment to the General Law for Tobacco Control, advocating to produce cigarettes with biodegradable filters to address environmental concerns. Cigarette butts, laden with toxic compounds, pose significant harm to ecosystems and human health, with studies estimating trillions discarded annually, making them the most prevalent form of human waste worldwide. If approved, the initiative will mandate manufacturers to disclose filter materials and decomposition time, aiming to mitigate pollution from cigarette butts, a pressing issue highlighted by volunteer cleanup initiatives and scientific research.

Reckitt to Drive Social Responsibility Initiatives in Mexico

Reckitt will invest MX$120 million over four years in social responsibility projects in Mexico through a collaboration with the British Embassy. The agreement highlights shared values of social responsibility and support for vulnerable communities. Initiatives like "Keep Children in School" addressing water access, "Safeteen First/Sí Confío" for sexual education, and "GRIP-PERAM" raising awareness about antimicrobial resistance, are part of Reckitt's commitment to promoting a healthier and sustainable future in Mexico.

SC Johnson Leads Global Efforts Toward Zero Waste

SC Johnson conducted a survey among Mexican families on International Zero Waste Day to gauge attitudes toward sustainability. While 91% claimed awareness of environmental issues, only 43% understood sustainable development, revealing gaps in knowledge. Only 49% of respondents implement concrete sustainability measures at home, prompting SC Johnson's commitment to a circular economy and waste reduction initiatives globally. The company aims to reduce virgin plastic usage by 30% and incorporate at least 25% post-consumer recycled plastic into packaging by 2025, alongside innovative measures like in-store refill systems and digitization projects to enhance sustainability metrics tracking.

PEMEX Urged to Embrace Biofuels for Decarbonization

The Mexican Biofuel Mobility Association (Biomovilidad) urged PEMEX to develop a comprehensive strategy for decarbonizing the transportation sector, aligning with global trends and aiming for net zero emissions. Biomovilidad highlights the potential of biofuels, particularly bioethanol from sugarcane surplus, to provide economic and environmental benefits. The organization emphasized the importance of PEMEX formulating a long-term plan spanning governmental administrations, advocating for the expansion of PEMEX's Sustainability Plan to incorporate bioethanol as a gasoline oxygenate and primary transportation fuel, aligning with international environmental commitments.

Witnessing the Evolution of Solar in Mexico: Trina Solar

Trina Solar aims to expand its presence in Mexico's renewable energy sector by offering comprehensive energy solutions, including storage projects to address grid congestion issues. Despite Mexico's reduced share in the global market, the company sees potential for growth, especially as storage technology becomes more cost-effective. With solar investments facing regulatory challenges, Trina Solar emphasizes the importance of leveling the playing field between renewable and non-renewable energy sources and anticipates significant growth in storage solutions, positioning itself strategically for future developments in the sector.
