Yanfeng Seating Mexico has partnered with ForeFront Power to install a 630kW solar system at its San Luis Potosi plant, in a move that aligns the automotive supplier with the growing sustainability demands of global automakers.

The rooftop and carport arrays are expected to generate more than 1.1 million kWh of clean electricity each year, covering roughly 43% of the plant’s energy needs. All of the power will be used during peak daytime hours, cutting both costs and emissions. The system is projected to offset nearly 495mt of CO₂ annually, the equivalent of removing more than 215 cars from the road.

The plant, which produces door panels for BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen, is the latest link in Mexico’s automotive supply chain to shift toward renewable energy. “Through our partnership with ForeFront Power and our investment in renewable energy, we are not only meeting our customers’ sustainability goals, we are raising the bar across Mexico’s automotive supply chain,” said Du Hai, Yanfeng’s regional operations manager.

The project was financed under a 10-year power purchase agreement with ForeFront Power, requiring no upfront investment from Yanfeng. The company will purchase electricity at a fixed, lower rate than the utility and is expected to save more than MX$26 million (US$1.4 million) over the next decade.

The investment supports Yanfeng International’s broader target of reaching net zero emissions and sourcing 100% of its global energy from renewables by 2030.
