Santander Highlights ESG Investment Opportunities for Insurers
Santander México and Santander Asset Management presented investment opportunities aligned with ESG criteria to over 100 insurance companies affiliated with the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS). The event was organized by SAM Asset Management, Santander's local asset management division, following recent regulatory changes requiring the integration of ESG factors into insurance sector investments.
Samantha Ricciardi, Global CEO, Santander Asset Management, emphasized the significance of this transition for the Mexican insurance industry. "We are at a crucial moment for the sector. The recent regulatory updates establish a commitment for institutions and mutual societies to incorporate ESG criteria into their investment policies. This initiative not only evaluates the impact of our investments on the environment and society but also provides an opportunity to align with global best practices. Santander Asset Management has extensive experience supporting insurers worldwide in meeting similar regulatory requirements," Ricciardi stated.
Mariuz Calvet, Executive Director of Sustainability, Santander México, reinforced the bank's role as a strategic partner for insurers navigating these regulatory changes. "With our expertise in sustainability and ESG investments, Santander is a key ally for the insurance sector in transitioning toward a responsible economy under the new regulatory framework applicable to this fundamental industry in the national economy," she said.
The event also featured insights from experts within Santander, AMIS executives, consultants, and Augusto Caro, Global Head of Socially Responsible Investment (SRI), Santander Asset Management. Discussions covered the regulatory impact on insurers, Mexico’s sustainable taxonomy, comparisons with international practices, and tailored solutions based on Santander’s global experience in ESG investments.
