CHRISTUS MUGUERZA Begins Construction of Hospital in Los Cabos
CHRISTUS MUGUERZA has begun construction on a new high-specialty hospital in Los Cabos, backed by an investment of over MX$2 billion (US$100 million). The project is intended to expand advanced medical services in Baja California Sur, addressing the needs of a growing local, expat, and tourist population.
The facility, named Hospital CHRISTUS MUGUERZA Los Cabos, will be located along the Cabo San Lucas–San Jose del Cabo corridor. Covering over 23,000m² of construction on a 29,215m² site, the hospital will cater to nearly 30 medical specialties, including cardiology, oncology, pediatrics, gynecology, neurosurgery, and a dedicated breast clinic.
The hospital will feature 72 beds, 44 medical offices, four emergency care units, and three operating rooms, among other critical care areas. Over MX$490 million will be allocated to the acquisition of advanced medical technology, according to Horacio Garza, Health System General Director, CHRISTUS MUGUERZA. This technology includes AI-assisted chest and breast imaging, a virtual assistant for obstetric nursing, predictive pain control algorithms, teleradiology, and an electronic health record system.
The facility is expected to serve over 350,000 local residents, more than 23,000 US nationals living in the area, and over 4 million tourists who visit annually.
Architect Fernando Romero, whose firm FR-EE is leading the design, says that the building will reflect the identity of Baja California Sur by incorporating local materials, textures, and cultural elements. The hospital is scheduled to open in the first half of 2028 and aims to become a regional hub for complex medical care in northwestern Mexico.
