Mexico’s health regulator COFEPRIS has issued a risk alert regarding the toothpaste "Colgate Total Prevención Activa Clean Mint," following reports of adverse health reactions. The agency has granted a 30-day period for the product to be withdrawn from points of sale nationwide.

According to COFEPRIS, the toothpaste has been linked to symptoms such as gum inflammation, oral sensitivity, ulcers, canker sores, boils, and allergic reactions. "As a precautionary measure, this health authority recommends suspending the use of the product and consulting a healthcare professional," COFEPRIS says.

The warning follows a series of reports submitted to COFEPRIS' Technovigilance system, detailing consumer experiences with the product. The toothpaste, which is marketed as a hygiene product, is now under scrutiny due to its potential to cause irritation and discomfort.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and report any symptoms to the agency. COFEPRIS has provided a link for the public to notify adverse effects directly. Individuals who have the product in their possession are encouraged to contact the manufacturer for return instructions.

The agency clarified that the product recall applies exclusively to the “Colgate Total Prevención Activa Clean Mint” variant and does not extend to other products under the same brand. COFEPRIS will continue conducting health surveillance actions, adding that further updates may be issued if new evidence emerges.
