On May 29, 2025, the Forum Salud Digital México 2025 brought together healthcare executives, technologists, and policymakers to explore the transformative role of AI and emerging technologies in the healthcare sector.
The event demonstrated Mexico's commitment to adopting AI and digital technologies in healthcare. It fostered dialogue around the sector's challenges and opportunities, highlighting the importance of strategic planning, collaboration, and innovation.
“Having such an important forum with so many stakeholders sharing different perspectives is one of several steps we are taking toward building the healthcare system we envision for the next 10 years — one that, as I see it, will solve problems that can only be addressed through technology,” says Carlos Quijas, Chief Risk and Security Officer, Onesec.
A central focus of the forum was the implementation of AI to enhance healthcare delivery. Experts highlighted the potential of AI in optimizing hospital infrastructure, improving patient care pathways, and enabling remote diagnostics. The integration of AI was seen as essential for addressing inefficiencies and ensuring that healthcare resources are used effectively.
The forum underscored the importance of developing a universal EHR system in Mexico. Francisco Martínez, Head of Digital Health, Automation, and AI, Siemens Healthineers, emphasized the need for a phased and collaborative approach. The goal is to create an interoperable system that bridges public and private healthcare sectors, ensuring seamless patient data flow and improved care coordination.
“All that we have just discussed must be directed toward enabling Mexicans to have a more efficient, interoperable healthcare system — one where we can indeed be more efficient,” says Martínez.
Discussions also centered on transitioning to value-based healthcare models, where patient outcomes and cost-effectiveness are prioritized. The integration of AI and digital tools was identified as crucial for measuring clinical outcomes, enhancing patient experiences, and making data-driven decisions. Challenges such as aligning incentives and cultural shifts within healthcare institutions were acknowledged as areas requiring strategic focus.
“We already have the knowledge and access to technological innovation that allows us to move closer to a value-based care model,” says Paola Cavazzani, Business Unit Director of Surgery, J&J Medtech Mexico.
The event also highlighted successful collaborations, such as the partnership between Mayo Clinic and Latin American institutions, to advance AI applications in healthcare. “We have found that there's a ton of enthusiasm from partners in Latin America,” says Alexis Jackson, Senior Director, Mayo Clinic Platform. These collaborations aim to educate clinicians, develop AI-driven diagnostic tools, and translate vast amounts of medical data to improve patient care. Such partnerships exemplify the global effort to harness technology for healthcare advancement.
