Mexico Launches Transparency Platform for Medicine Purchases
Mexico’s Ministry of Health (SSA) has introduced a new public platform aimed at enhancing transparency in the purchase and distribution of medicines and medical supplies. The platform, presented by Eduardo Clark, Deputy Minister for Sectoral Integration and Coordination of Medical Care Services, allows citizens to track critical healthcare resources, including medications, their volume, cost, and suppliers.
The platform provides a dedicated section where users can access detailed information about the health supplies procured by the government. In the coming weeks, the site will also include supply orders, offering real-time updates on the distribution process and vendor performance. The initiative aims to increase public oversight and improve accountability within the country’s healthcare system.
By providing this information, the SSA aims to make the procurement process more transparent, allowing the public and patients to track the medicines and medical supplies they depend on.
In March, Mexico requested a total of 381 million units of medications, reagents, tests, and medical devices — enough to meet approximately 1.8 months of demand for the healthcare system. To date, about 233 million items, or 61% of the total, have already been distributed to healthcare institutions across the country, reports SSA. The remaining 40 percent is in transit and expected to arrive soon.
"The arrival of these supplies is already making a tangible difference, and we expect this progress to continue as deliveries are completed," says Clark.
The government has also highlighted its commitment to improving access to critical treatments, including cancer medications. This investment includes the acquisition of innovative therapies for various diseases, making cutting-edge treatments more affordable and available to the population.
