Patient-centered care has become a fundamental pillar in transforming healthcare systems worldwide. In recent years, it has gained prominence by prioritizing patients' needs, preferences, and values, aiming to provide more humane, efficient, and effective care. This approach not only improves health outcomes but also fosters a more humane experience.

In Mexico, challenges persist in accessing healthcare services due to resource limitations and a fragmented system. Therefore, adopting this model is essential to improving the quality of healthcare services and addressing key challenges by reallocating resources more efficiently.

This model recognizes everyone as a unique being with physical, emotional, and social needs. It promotes patient participation in their own care, encourages open communication, and facilitates shared decision-making between healthcare professionals and patients.

By embracing patient-centered care, the goal is to enhance patient satisfaction and optimize clinical outcomes. Additionally, it requires healthcare systems to be flexible, innovative, and capable of adapting to the changing needs of the population. But are we truly listening to patients?

In Mexico, patient care is particularly relevant due to the unique characteristics of our healthcare system. According to data from Mexico's Ministry of Health, in 2024, more than 52 million Mexicans lacked access to healthcare services, representing approximately 39% of the population. This figure highlights an opportunity: We must build a system that prioritizes patients' needs, starting with prevention.

Despite these challenges, various initiatives have been implemented to improve healthcare in the country. Government efforts aim to provide universal health coverage and strengthen preventive medicine.

However, there is still a long way to go. The integration of advanced technologies, such as sensors, artificial intelligence, and cloud connectivity, allows physicians to monitor patients remotely and in real time, facilitating more personalized and accessible care.

In this context, medical technology plays a crucial role in advancing toward a patient-centered care model. Tools such as telemedicine, smart medical devices, and data management systems enable healthcare professionals to provide more accurate diagnoses, personalized treatments, and continuous patient monitoring. The question is: Are we fully leveraging this opportunity?

At Johnson & Johnson MedTech Mexico, we are committed to continuous improvement of healthcare in the country. We believe that patient-centered care is not only a responsibility of healthcare professionals but also a way to transform how we collaborate with society.

Our mission is to work alongside healthcare professionals and organizations to implement practices that promote active patient participation in their own care. By empowering patients and providing them with information through campaigns and resources, we can equip them with the necessary tools to significantly improve health outcomes and patient satisfaction.
