The health authorities of Chihuahua and the State of Mexico signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen organ and tissue donation programs, focusing on the ethical and safe handling of human tissues for therapeutic purposes.

The initiative, carried out under the program “Tejiendo Vidas,” was formalized by Gilberto Baeza Mendoza, Health Minister, Chihuahua, and Macarena Montoya, Director General, State of Mexico Health Institute (ISEM). The agreement covers the procurement, processing, storage, and distribution of skin, musculoskeletal tissue, and amniotic membrane.

“This collaboration will promote technological, human, and social development, while also supporting research and advances in medical and technological sciences,” says Fernando Ramos, Director, Chihuahua’s Transplant Center. He highlights the impact the partnership will have on units treating third-degree burns, which will now have access to improved resources and procedures.

The agreement is part of a broader strategy to reinforce public health services and transplant systems in both states. It aligns with the General Health Law and national transplant regulations to ensure the ethical use of human tissues. Officials noted that the cooperation between institutions not only facilitates operational and technical improvements, but also aims to boost innovation across the health sector.

Authorities expect the agreement to improve access to tissue-based treatments, enhance surgical capabilities, and support scientific progress in regenerative medicine. The initiative also represents a step forward in inter-institutional coordination, with both states sharing infrastructure, knowledge, and expertise to improve health outcomes.
