Yucatan Reports Lowest Dengue Cases in Mexico in 2024
In 2024, Yucatan reported only 368 cases of dengue, the lowest in Mexico, with no fatalities, according to the latest epidemiological report from the Federal Ministry of Health. This represents a significant improvement from 2023, when 15 dengue-related deaths were recorded. In contrast, neighboring states Campeche and Quintana Roo saw higher case numbers and fatalities, with the national death toll from dengue more than doubling in 2024.
Despite facing challenges like heavy rainfall and the failure of an anti-junk campaign in 2024, Yucatan ranked sixth nationwide for the lowest incidence of dengue, with just 368 cases. Other regions, such as Mexico City, Tlaxcala, and Baja California, reported even fewer cases, with some areas reporting none, according to Yucatan Times.
Within the Yucatan Peninsula, Yucatán had the lowest dengue case count, outperforming Campeche (622 cases) and Quintana Roo (1,002 cases), which ranked seventh and eighth nationally. This is a marked improvement compared to the neighboring states, which reported three and eight dengue-related deaths, respectively. Combined, the three states accounted for 11 deaths from dengue on the peninsula.
On a national level, dengue cases surged by more than 146% in 2024, reaching 56,548 confirmed cases, compared to 22,950 in 2023, as previously reported by MBN.
