CDMX’s Green Infrastructure Program Wins Top Award
SEDEMA was awarded first place in the Planning and Financing Instruments for Development category at the First Urbanism Biennial 2024 for its Special Program on Mexico City’s Green Infrastructure Net (PERIVE-CDMX). The project was recognized for its inter-institutional approach and systematic planning strategies for green infrastructure development.
The biennial received 189 submissions, with 21 competing for the category award. PERIVE-CDMX stood out for its goal to establish strategies and guidelines for the development of green infrastructure across the city, focusing on key principles such as connectivity, accessibility, functionality, and resilience. These principles aim to maximize environmental and social benefits through projects that enhance both green and blue spaces in Mexico City. The initiative also emphasizes the importance of adapting to climate change, increasing resilience, mitigating risks, and ensuring equitable distribution of quality open spaces.
The program seeks to guarantee access to environmental benefits that improve citizens' quality of life, in line with the human right to a healthy environment. PERIVE-CDMX plays a key role in promoting environmental well-being and improving urban spaces for all residents.
The award was received by Maritza Hernández, the architect behind the project, and Victoria Hernández, the interim director of the SEDEMA's General Directorate of Environmental Policies and Culture, along with a multidisciplinary team of professionals who contributed to the program.
