Mexico-based Grupo CICE and government representatives toured the facilities of the Veracruz port’s expansion. The new terminal is expected to begin operations in April 2025. The company considers this project will consolidate its position as one of the main companies in Veracruz by growing its operations fourfold.

Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle, accompanied by officials from the Administration of the National Port System (ASIPONA) Veracruz and the state’s Economic and Port Development Ministry, visited the site to review progress. Grupo CICE executives, including Alfonso Díaz, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Leoncio Pérez, Director General, outlined the terminal’s key features, which will span 22ha and will include 550m of dock, a depth of 15m, and two docking positions. The facility will also feature a container yard with a static capacity of 13,000 TEUs and a dynamic capacity for more than 500,000 TEUs, along with refrigerated container storage and facilities for handling dangerous goods.

In addition to these facilities, the terminal will include an 8,000m² warehouse, a multimodal yard with 1,970m of railroad spur, and a wastewater treatment plant. The terminal is expected to generate around 500 direct permanent jobs and more than 1,200 indirect jobs, contributing significantly to employment in Veracruz.

The project is backed by a syndicated loan of MX$4.1 billion (US$202.5 million), financed by BanBajío, Banorte, Multiva, Bancomext, Bx+, and Monex, with support from the Trusts Established in Relation to Agriculture (FIRA). Grupo CICE sees this expansion as a key step in strengthening its role within Mexico’s logistics industry and contributing to economic growth in the region.
