Legal Disputes Surrounding Vulcan Materials Escalate

The dispute between Vulcan Materials and CEMEX gained momentum when Mexican armed forces entered the company’s facilities. SICT says new trolleybuses will be used in the Chalco-Santa Martha route that will benefit 120,000 daily passengers. The ministry also highlights that the main road to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport will be toll-free and reduce travel time.

Vulcan Materials in Legal Dispute With CEMEX, Mexican Government

US-based leading aggregates company Vulcan Materials is in a two-front legal dispute with both CEMEX and the Mexican government. Military forces entered the company’s Punta Venado port in Quintana Roo on March 14, 2023. At the same time, the company also mentioned the presence of CEMEX workers, escorted by security bodies. 

 

The US State Department said it was concerned about the fair treatment of US companies in Mexico. “Cases like these have the potential to impact our ability to achieve our shared vision for improving livelihoods in one of Mexico’s most economically disadvantaged regions. It also impacts Mexico’s efforts to attract future investments,” the department stated.  

 

SICT, Mexico City Government to Acquire 102 Trolleybuses

The Mexico City government and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) announced a new mobility project that seeks to benefit 3 million passengers in the Mexico City metropolitan area. The federal government transferred resources to the state to complete this project in 2023.  

 

SICT and the Mexico City government forecast that the trolleybuses will have the capacity to mobilize 142,160 passengers and up to 230,000 at peak demand. The buses will be equipped with a security camera, proximity and reversing sensors, spaces for people with disabilities and other features. 

 

SICT Shows Off Toll-Free Road to AIFA

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) explained that the main access road to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will reduce travel time for thousands of passengers and will be toll-free.  

 

CONAGUA Pours Efforts in Water Distribution, Drainage Desilting

The National Water Commission (CONAGUA) has been working on complying with a complex water demand since the beginning of 2023, as the commission continues to work in collaboration with numerous states that are facing water shortages. The commission hopes to maintain water services for the population while improving drainage systems, explained CONAGUA via a press release. 

 

Mexico, Leader in Hotel Construction in Latin America: STR

Mexico is among the most important tourism destinations in the world. Global data analytics company STR said that Mexico is leading the hotel construction industry in Latin America in terms of rooms being constructed. 

 

During the National Hotel Industry Day 2023 celebration, Minister of Tourism Miguel Torruco announced that as of February 2022, the country had received investment of MX$215.5 billion (US$11.7 billion) for 521 tourism projects, of which 75.5% corresponded to hotel room construction.
