Infrastructure works in the southeast of Mexico continue advancing, with significant progress achieved at the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum, Quintana Roo, and the Mayan Train, report authorities.

During a morning press conference, Oscar Lozano, Director General, Mayan Train, announced that Section 1 of the Mayan Train will work with the Interoceanic Corridor (CIIT) to boost trade. Section 1 crosses from Palenque, Chiapas, to Escarcega, Campeche. It will also have a goods exchange terminal in Palenque, which will begin construction next year.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said during the press conference that the cargo trains for the Mayan Train will be purchased through a tender. Authorities will also build an operations yard in Escarcega, Campeche, which will have the capacity to transport fuels, cement, steel, grains, perishables and vehicles through the railway system.

Section 1 is 81.85% complete. Section 5 north, which covers a 43.3km stretch from Cancun to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, records 43.22% completion. Section 6, which covers the stretch from Tulum to Chetumal, stands at 44.12% completion. Meanwhile, Section 7, which covers the 254.5km stretch from Chetumal, Quintana Roo, to Escarcega, Campeche stands at 44.11% completion, as reported by MBN.

Maite Ramos, Director, Alstom México, announced that the second standard-type convoy of the Mayan Train is in the static testing phase at the Ciudad Sahagun factory, Hidalgo. Simultaneously, there are ten trains undergoing body assembly, painting and interior furnishing. MBN reported that 13 more trains are set to be delivered by December and the rest of the 42 X-trapolis trains will arrive in 2024.

The Tulum Airport is expected to be inaugurated in December as it stands at 65.02% completion following the installation of horizontal signaling and the electrification of the main runway platforms.
