The Mayan Train’s Section 3 Track is Complete

Construction of the track of the Mayan Train’s Section 3 has been completed, says Óscar Lozano, Director General, Mayan Train. This section covers the stretch from Calkini, Campeche, to Izamal, Yucatan. During a morning press conference, Lozano also reported on the second journey of the Mayan Train and gave significant updates on several complementary works.
During Monday’s daily press conference, Lozano reported that the track of Section 3 of the Mayan Train is fully complete. Section 3 covers 159km, of which 99km have a single track and 60km a double electrified track. Furthermore, the installation and electrical welding at the track is complete, while the installation of track equipment stands at 45%.
Lozano also reported that the maintenance base and garage located at the Teya station stand at over 70% completion. Meanwhile, the three viaducts planned along the route are 99% complete and 150 out of 196 transversal drainage works, wildlife crossings and underpasses are finished.
President López Obrador reported that the section includes facilities for transporting goods and cargo. This is thanks to the construction of a multimodal terminal and a second one for PEMEX’s storage and distribution activities, which will facilitate the transportation of fuel via the Mayan Train.
Blas Núñez, Head, Mayan Train Coordination Center of Operations, said during the morning press conference that the New Uxmal Park stands at 50.22% completion. This project includes building a Hotel Mayan Train and natural preservation activities.
The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) is also working on La Plancha Park, which stands at 97.39% completion and is set to be inaugurated on Nov. 19.
Maite Ramos, Country Managing Director, Alstom, reported that the second journey of the Mayan Train was a success, covering over 600km from the station at Cancun International Airport, Quintana Roo, to Escarcega station, Campeche. She also mentioned that the four cars of the first convoy met the validation program. Additionally, she highlighted the commitment to conduct 15,000km of type testing, expecting to achieve 120km/hr to 180km/hr speeds in the next test.
López Obrador wrote on the social media platform X that the Mayan Train’s stretch from Palenque to Cancun will be inaugurated on Dec. 15.
