The Government of Mexico, through the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), has announced advances in the development of the Interoceanic Train of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec (CIIT). According to the latest report, Line K has reached 87.68% completion and is on track for full delivery by June 2026, while the Roberto Ayala–Dos Bocas segment of Line FA stands at 44.28% completion in right-of-way clearance.

Additionally, construction is advancing on the “El Tehuanito” Suburban Train, which will begin passenger operations in December 2025. President Claudia Sheinbaum highlights that the first section of Line K will be inaugurated in November 2025, marking another key step in connecting Mexico’s Pacific and Atlantic coasts. She also confirms ongoing talks with Guatemala to extend the railway into Central America, reinforcing Mexico’s role as a regional logistics bridge.

Meanwhile, the Roberto Ayala-Dos Bocas stretch of Line FA will support the transportation of fuel and refined products from the Olmeca Refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco, strengthening southern energy logistics.

“This is a major regional development project. Across the corridor, there are 14 Well-being Development Hubs: six already under development and the rest in bidding. There’s significant investor interest in this zone, this is the essence of the Interoceanic Railway,” states Sheinbaum.

Octavio Sánchez, Director, CIIT, details the advances made on three sectors of Line K:

  • Ciudad Ixtepec–Tonala: 99.44% completed and in testing since Aug. 26, 2025

  • Tonala–Huixtla: 79.23% completion

  • Huixtla–Ciudad Hidalgo and KA (Los Toros–Puerto Chiapas): 84.36% completion.

The 14 stations along Line K are advancing at 47.67%, while the Huixtla Viaduct is nearly complete at 99.95%, generating 1,500 direct jobs. Urban improvement projects, including linear parks in Arriaga and Huixtla, are progressing at 95.1% and 33.25%, respectively.

The “El Tehuanito” Suburban Train will operate two weekday routes covering 189km:

  • Northern Route: Ubero–Ixtepec–Ubero

  • Southern Route: Union Hidalgo–Salina Cruz–Union Hidalgo

Its stations show an 82.6% completion rate, further expanding passenger mobility in Oaxaca.

Since entering service in late 2023, the Z and FA Lines have transported 134,903 passengers and 889,920 t of cargo, underscoring the growing logistical role of the Interoceanic system.

The Matias Romero Complex, which includes a Unified Dispatch Center, training facilities, administrative buildings, and workshops, has reached 55.12% completion and is expected to finish by July 2026.

The Roberto Ayala-Dos Bocas right-of-way involves 1,766 properties and has generated 1,100 direct and 4,400 indirect jobs since construction began on Oct. 10, 2025, say authorities.

Beyond infrastructure, the project integrates social investment across the region. SEMAR and SEDATU have financed 150 community projects, delivered 4,029 homes, and supported 4,962 housing improvements. This year alone, 15 federal agencies allocated MX$14.9 billion (US$834 million) to benefit communities along the railway.

In total, the 14 Development Poles (PODECOBIs) along the Interoceanic Corridor are driving industrial, logistical, and social transformation in southern Mexico, nine are already concessioned, three are in international bidding, and two remain under process.
