In a global environment full of opportunities, Mexican micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) have a unique advantage: they are in the right place at the right time. With the rise of nearshoring, the digitalization of trade, and the push for programs like “Plan Mexico,” it has never been more feasible for a Mexican small or medium-sized business to conquer new markets. But there is one decisive factor in achieving this: logistics.

According to Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, MSMEs represent 52% of the country's GDP and generate employment for 68% of the economically active population. More than 4.7 million companies operate in key sectors, including commerce, services, and manufacturing, employing nearly 7 out of 10 Mexicans. They are the country's economic engine, but in many cases, they fail to reach beyond the domestic market.

Increasing Competitiveness

In this context, the Mexican government launched Plan Mexico, a program to strengthen the participation of MSMEs in global value chains. This plan seeks to increase local content in key industries, such as automotive, aerospace, electronics, and pharmaceuticals, to ensure that 30% of MSMEs have access to financing through collaboration between development and commercial banks.

Beyond economic growth, it is necessary to address the structural challenges of the Mexican labor market. Although small and medium-sized enterprises represent the majority of establishments in the country, their contribution to added value remains lower compared to large corporations, reflecting a productivity gap that must be closed with concrete actions.

However, even with specific breakthroughs, companies face logistical barriers when entering international markets. This is where FedEx plays a strategic role that can accelerate the integration of MSMEs into global value chains.

FedEx: Facilitator of International Trade

FedEx has played a strategic role in international trade, providing innovative and flexible logistics solutions to connect Mexican MSMEs with global markets. MSMEs don't just need to transport products: they need support, visibility, and efficiency to compete. That's why FedEx offers tools such as real-time tracking, automatic waybill generation, electronic invoicing, and warehousing and supply chain visibility solutions tailored to each business.

With a presence in 220 countries and territories, a robust infrastructure in Mexico (more than 83 stations, six international air cargo terminals, and 45 weekly flights), and solutions specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses, FedEx has become the ideal strategic partner for exporting Mexican products to the world.

Connecting Mexico to Global Markets

Mexico is a key player in the global economy, and foreign trade represents a fundamental pillar of its growth. In 2024, Mexican exports grew 4% compared to 2023, reaching US$565 billion.

The United States is the main destination, with exports reaching a record US$41.6 billion in January 2024, growing 6.2% compared to December. Eighty percent of these exports go to the northern part of the continent, and FedEx makes this possible with strategic routes such as Guadalajara–Oakland and Toluca–Memphis, which improve delivery times and connect with key hubs in Asia, Europe, and North America.

According to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), 8 out of 10 MSMEs in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina sell online through platforms such as WhatsApp, Mercado Libre, Instagram, and Amazon. For them, FedEx is not just a parcel delivery company; it's a comprehensive international trade solution. With optimized routes, cutting-edge technology, and a focus on customer experience, FedEx enables MSMEs to compete effectively in the international market.

In a demanding global context, it is essential to have the experience to understand the specific needs of MSMEs to make the difference between participating and standing out. FedEx drives international trade with its world-class infrastructure and technology, while enabling the sustainable growth of millions of small and medium-sized Mexican businesses. Its commitment to this key sector of the national economy makes FedEx a driving force for development, connecting Mexican talent, products, and innovation with the opportunities the world has to offer.
