ArcelorMittal has urged union leaders and striking workers to reconsider their "illegal" strike and return to work at their facilities in Michoacan. The company warned that if the strike persists, it will take measures to uphold the rule of law.
Since May 28, workers from Section 271 of the Miners' Union have blocked the steel plant's facilities due to dissatisfaction with profit-sharing PTU payments. However, ArcelorMittal has stressed it adhered to legal provisions and regulations regarding the payments.
Last week, the Federal Labor Court for Collective Matters shelved the case, recognizing the work stoppage as premature and procedurally violative. "The work stoppage that persists today at our workplace is contrary to the law, so we make a respectful plea to the union leadership and the striking workers to reconsider their position and return immediately to perform their duties. We keep our communication channels open and continue to explore alternative solutions," the company said in a press release.
ArcelorMittal declared that if the illegal blockade persists, it will take action. "The company reserves the right to take individual and/or collective actions as it deems appropriate in order to defend the rule of law," the company said.
As of June 5, the company reported a loss of more than 100,000t of production, leading to an operational and financial crisis. "This situation not only jeopardizes the company's operations, but also threatens job stability and the well-being of employees' families, negatively impacting the region's economy," the company stated.
