Mexico-based silver company Fresnillo sold the majority of its stake in Canada-based junior miner MAG Silver. The decision comes after the Pan American Silver acquisition of MAG Silver, as it does not align with Fresnillo’s objectives. In other news, Australia-based Lynas Rare Earth Metals became the first dysprosium producer outside China. Production takes place amid increasing Chinese export restrictions on certain critical minerals.

Vizsla Silver Expands in Sinaloa, Acquires Santa Fe Project
Canada-based exploration company Vizsla Silver entered into agreements to acquire the Santa Fe project in Sinaloa. The project, near its flagship Panuco venture, features permitted production infrastructure and exploration potential. Vizsla Silver’s recent acquisition is a 12,229ha site featuring production and exploration concessions, located 22km southeast of the Panuco project in Mexico. The acquisition will be made through a combination of cash and shares, reports the company.
Pan American Silver Acquires MAG Silver
Pan American Silver announced it will acquire MAG Silver in an agreement valued at approximately US$2.1 billion. The transaction will give Pan American Silver shareholders a 44% interest in the Juanicipio mine in Zacatecas.
Lynas Becomes First Dysprosium Producer Outside China
Lynas Rare Earths announced it has successfully produced dysprosium at its Malaysian plant, marking the first commercial production of this heavy rare earth element outside of China. The company's achievement comes amid increasing geopolitical risk caused by Chinese dominance over the production and refining of critical minerals.
