The Government of the State of Mexico announced a historic expansion of its high-capacity transport systems, Mexicable and Mexibús, adding 71.21km of new infrastructure that will serve an estimated 726,800 daily passengers across the state.
Governor of the State of Mexico, Delfina Gómez’s plan includes the construction of Mexicable Line 3 and the Mexibús Lines V, VI, and VII, extending reliable public transport to new municipalities, including Toluca Valley and Naucalpan.
The State of Mexico’s transport network spans 164.72km through the Mexibús and Mexicable systems, serving 453,277 users daily across municipalities such as Tlalnepantla, Ecatepec, Coacalco, Tecamac, Cuautitlan Izcalli, Tultitlan, Zumpango, Nezahualcoyotl, Chimalhuacan, and Chicoloapan.
With the new projects, the network will expand by over 43%, improving regional connectivity and access for thousands of commuters.
-
Mexicable Line 3: The new Mexicable 3 will stretch 9.5 km across the hills of Naucalpan, one of the state’s most challenging topographies. Featuring 10 stations, it will carry up to 40,000 users per day, cutting travel times from one hour to just 30 minutes
-
Mexibús Line V: Line V of the Mexibús system (Lecheria-CETRAM El Rosario) will span 29.41km, featuring 29 stations and two terminals. The project will serve 137,000 daily users, connecting Cuautitlan Izcalli, Tultitlan, Tlalnepantla, Naucalpan and parts of Azcapotzalco in Mexico City, enhancing intermunicipal mobility and reducing congestion in one of the state’s busiest economic corridors
-
Mexibús Line VI: The VI Line (Valle de Toluca-Lerma-Zinacantepec) will add 28.8km per direction, with 44 stations and two terminals, directly serving 88,000 commuters daily in Lerma, Toluca, and Zinacantepec. It will also integrate feeder routes from San Mateo Atenco, Metepec, and Almoloya de Juarez, supporting the region’s accelerated population and economic growth
-
Mexibús Line VII: Serving Nezahualcoyotl and Chimalhuacan: Line VII (Vicente Villada-Panteon de Los Rosales) will cover 3.5km along Avenida Chimalhuacan, featuring six stations and serving more than 81,400 users daily in densely populated eastern municipalities.
Minister of Mobility of the State of Mexico, Daniel Sibaja, says that the expansion aims to deliver safe, high-quality, and sustainable public transport to a growing population that spends hours commuting daily.
The projects also incorporate bicycle infrastructure and bike parking, encouraging combined mobility modes and reducing emissions through active transport. The Mexicable and Mexibús expansion form part of Plan Colibrí’s multimodal actions, MBN reports.
Fare Adjustment and System Modernization
At the same time, the Ministry of Mobility published a new tariff structure for collective and mixed public transport services. The updated rates, MX$14 (US$0.76) for the first 5km (colectivo) and MX$11 (US$0.60) for the first 10km (mixed services), aim to ensure the modernization, safety, and sustainability of public transport while requiring operators to upgrade units, install video surveillance, maintain insurance, and adopt new MOVIMEX color standards before December 2025.
Sibaja says that fare benefits will continue for INAPAM cardholders, keeping senior citizen fares at MX$12 (US$0.65).
