PEMEX Output Falls 8% in August; Mexico’s US Gas Imports Drop

PEMEX August Crude Production Down 8%, Active Rigs Drop 43% YoY
Crude oil production averaged 1.37MMb/d in August, down 8% compared to the 1.49MMb/d reported a year earlier. Output remained below PEMEX’s 2024 average of 1.49MMb/d, with no month in 2025 so far reaching that level. The August figure was also weaker than July’s 1.38MMb/d, highlighting the difficulty PEMEX faces in stabilizing long-term production trends.
Mexico’s US Gas Imports Fall 2.33% in July
Mexico’s natural gas pipeline imports from the United States fell 2.33% in July 2025, slipping from 217.9Bcf in July 2024 to 212.8Bcf. It was the first month this year to register a year-on-year decline. From January through July, Mexico imported an average of 201.4Bcf per month, equivalent to 6.68Bcf/d. The country also brought in an additional 1.5Bcf of LNG from the US, marking only the second such delivery this year after April.
Grupo Carso Secures US$1.99 Billion PEMEX Drilling Contract at Ixachi
Grupo Carso announced the signing of a financed drilling services contract with PEMEX for the Ixachi onshore field, one of Mexico’s most significant oil and gas projects. The agreement was executed through subsidiaries GSM Bronco and MX DLTA NRG 1, covering the drilling and completion of up to 32 wells over a three-year period for a maximum of US$1.991 billion.

ASEA Begins Fuel Station Checks With Pemex Mobile Labs in Mexico
Mexico’s environmental regulator has launched a new phase of oversight in the retail fuel sector, deploying mobile laboratories to verify compliance with emissions standards at service stations. The Agency for Safety, Energy and Environment (ASEA) carried out its first inspections in Mexico City this month with the support of PEMEX, marking the start of a program designed to strengthen monitoring and reduce air pollution.
