Repsol Mexico Targets Net-Zero Emissions by 2050
Repsol Mexico unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Plan, which reaffirms the company’s commitment to energy transition and sustainable development, with a focus on six strategic areas: climate change, environmental stewardship, innovation and technology, safe operations, people, and ethics and transparency.
Repsol’s primary focus is to reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. Under the environmental pillar, the company emphasizes efficient and responsible use of natural resources. The innovation and technology section promotes the integration of advancements that support sustainable growth, while the safety operations pillar ensures the well-being of employees, contractors, and local communities. The plan also prioritizes personal and community development, with ethics and transparency guiding all corporate actions.
Aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, Repsol's plan targets SDG 7, “Affordable and clean energy”; SDG 8, “Decent work and economic growth”; and SDG 13, “Climate action,” among others. The company will revise and update its plan annually, providing reports on progress. By maintaining ongoing dialogue with stakeholders, Repsol aims to maximize positive impacts and mitigate negative ones, advancing sustainable practices across Mexico’s energy sector.
