SENER Discusses Strategic Collaboration With Woodside Energy
Mexico’s Minister of Energy, Luz Elena González, recently met with Daniel Kalms, Senior Vice President, Woodside Energy, to discuss the company’s global operations and explore opportunities for collaboration with PEMEX. The meeting, announced via Twitter, underscored the shared commitment to advancing energy projects that bolster Mexico’s energy independence.
A central topic of discussion was the progress of the Trion project, a deepwater oil and gas initiative jointly developed by Woodside Energy and PEMEX in the Gulf of Mexico. The Trion field is projected to reach a maximum oil production capacity of 110Mb/d and 120MMcf/d of gas in the coming years. This development is seen as a key element in Mexico’s strategy to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
“This type of project contributes to our goal of energy independence for the benefit of the people of Mexico,” González stated.
The Trion project represents a significant milestone for Mexico’s oil and gas sector, combining PEMEX’s expertise with Woodside Energy’s technological capabilities. The collaboration underscores the potential for international partnerships to enhance Mexico’s energy production while supporting national economic goals.
Woodside Energy, one of Australia’s largest oil and gas companies, has expressed interest in expanding its footprint in Mexico, leveraging its global experience to contribute to the country’s energy security. The dialogue between Woodside and the Ministry of Energy reflects a broader effort to align private-sector initiatives with national energy priorities.
