Q: With 20 years of experience, what are some of the biggest changes you have seen in the industry and how has Riansa adapted?

DA: The company is focused on enhancing productivity across the whole value chain related to PEMEX. The NOC is our main client and our most in-demand services are reactive and non-reactive solutions for well stimulation, as well as the cleaning of dehydration plants, pipelines and discharge lines. Riansa focuses on the value chain related to production.

RA: Riansa is making its technologies, infrastructure and labor capital available to the state-owned company, contributing to maintenance and helping to increase production for PEMEX. The main change that we have experienced in the last 20 years is the arrival of the private sector in Mexico’s oil exploitation industry, which has forced companies in the sector to become more efficient and competitive. Riansa, as a technological solutions integrator, seeks to be one step ahead of the developments and up to date with new technologies to provide products and services that answer to the needs brought about by the changes in the industry. Our main challenge has been to be competitive, not only as an option for PEMEX but also regarding working with the private sector.

Q: How is your portfolio spread between offshore and onshore projects?

DA: Our portfolio of products and services is evenly distributed, allowing us to answer any necessity, whether offshore or onshore. The area of opportunity that we have offshore is to answer with products and services that include specialized acid and chemical systems adapted to the Mexican market. Every well requires a specific solution, much like a tailor-made suit. Riansa provides that.

Q: What is the importance of your products for reducing costs and increasing efficiency in production processes?

DA: Riansa is involved throughout the production chain, from well stimulation to oil recovery, as well as continuous injections and maintenance. Regarding mature fields, we have worked on different wells with specialized products, gaining great results and assuring customer satisfaction.

Q: How are Riansa’s strategic alliances bringing international experience to Mexico?

DA: In the past 15 years, Riansa has consolidated a strategic alliance with Brenta. During the past two years and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the companies have focused on providing workshops, coaching and training, which help consolidate their experience in the American market and to apply it to the Mexican environment. Furthermore, Riansa has been seeking new technologies in many other countries, from Malaysia to Colombia, in order to introduce them to the Mexican market.

RA: Brenta is the biggest chemicals distribution company in the world. With its wide portfolio of chemicals, we have been able to solve different problems for PEMEX, specifically related to crude production.

Q: Do you have any new technologies under development? If so, what is their focus and how can they grow your contributions to the industry?

RA: The new technologies that we have are systems for relative permeability modification, altering reservoir rock wettability, a water controller and flow enhancers. We have developed these products with the chemicals and products from Brenta. The flow improver, for example, decreases crude viscosity so that it is easily transported and production continues to flow.

Q: How are the company’s N-SPEC chemical products more environmentally friendly than alternatives in the market?

DA: The N-SPEC products have been recently applied successfully in the North Sea, between Scotland and Norway. Tests for water toxicity, biodegradation and accumulation in the maritime environment showed these chemicals are remarkably clean and much more eco-friendly than the common dissolvents used in the industry.

Q: How is Riansa improving health, safety and environment (HSE) concerns in the industry?

DA: Riansa always complies with norms and regulations. The company seeks not only to stay at the level of the law but to go beyond that by implementing quality systems, also related to the protection of the environment. We work integrally and have implemented a zero risk and accidents policy for our staff. We have not had a single incident in 21 years.

Q: What are Riansa’s long-term and short-term goals?

DA: In the short term, the company aims to keep providing quality, competitive solutions and to diversify its chemical products to provide more services. In the medium term, the goal is to expand our offshore participation. Finally, in the long term, Riansa wants to be one of the five most-recognized companies in the oil and gas industry in Mexico.
