TEPJF Ruling Against AMLO. The Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch (TEPJF) determined on Wednesday, Feb. 28, that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador did engage in personalized propaganda, misuse of public resources, and violation of electoral laws during the massive event on July 1, 2023, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his electoral victory.

When questioned about the ruling, López Obrador said: "If I made a mistake, I am willing to correct it." The TEPJF resolved that there was misuse of public resources and personalized propaganda on the fifth anniversary of his victory.

Mayan Train. Mara Lezama, Governor, Quintana Roo, spoke about the inauguration of Section 5 of the Mayan Train, which runs from Cancun to Playa del Carmen. The train has sparked other projects in the region and generated competitiveness across sectors, resulting in investments and progress for citizens, as long as it is done with shared prosperity.

Representatives of construction companies involved in the Mayan Train reported on the progress of the different stages of the project. In Section 5 North, greater attention was paid to environmental care. The section includes nine Protected Natural Areas and seven new Areas Voluntarily Designated for Conservation, totaling 1,397,000ha, reported the Ministry of the Environment, Luisa Albores. López Obrador indicated that the Mayan Train project is progressing well despite setbacks. Section 5 North was the one that presented the most structural problems, he said.

The project will run through elevated sections across 90km to protect the environment, avoid affecting cenotes or underground rivers, and not disrupt the passage of fauna. This also meant an increase in construction costs. "We are more careful than the pseudo-environmentalists, who have turned the issue into a business," asserted the President.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador accused environmentalists who denounce the drilling of caves in the southeast of the country for the construction of the Maya Train of doing so as part of blackmail because he accused them of it being their "business."

Behind the attacks on the Mayan Train by “pseudo-environmentalists” for alleged environmental negligence, the president explained that the government has received many injunctions and said he has evidence that many of those protesting are corrupt. "There are political and economic interests behind it all. We are facing an environmental mafia," he said.
