ANPACT Leads 4th Reforestation Drive, 600 Trees Planted
Mexico’s heavy-vehicle industry conducted its fourth annual reforestation initiative, planting 600 native pine trees in Sierra Morelos, Toluca, as part of efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability. The campaign, led by the National Association of Bus, Truck, and Tractor Manufacturers (ANPACT), brought together 86 volunteers from 15 manufacturers, including Daimler Buses, Dina, Foton, Freightliner, Hino, International, Isuzu, Kenworth, Mack, MAN, Mercedes-Benz Vans, Scania, Volkswagen, Volvo, and Cummins.
Volunteers planted Hartwegii and Montezumae pines, chosen for their ability to support carbon capture, biodiversity, and aquifer recharge. Alongside tree planting, participants joined a “Walk for a Clean Forest,” collecting litter in public areas, and attended an educational session on forest health challenges, including illegal logging, wildfires, and unplanned urban expansion.
ANPACT Executive President Rogelio Arzate highlighted the industry’s role in sustainability. “By planting each tree, we sow the future,” he said. “We strengthen the forest’s capacity to absorb carbon, maintain soil health, support biodiversity, and leave a positive legacy.”
The initiative builds on ANPACT’s previous efforts: 300 trees planted in Puebla in 2019, 500 in Ocoyoacac in 2023, and 600 in La Marquesa in 2024, where a 90% survival rate was recorded. The 2025 effort further demonstrates measurable environmental contributions.
ANPACT noted that the reforestation program is part of its environmental, social, and governance strategy and aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15, which focuses on protecting terrestrial ecosystems. The initiative also connects to broader discussions on sustainable mobility and decarbonization, which will be central to Expo Transporte ANPACT 2025 in November in Guadalajara.
