Danone Joins B Corp Movement, Certifying Over 200 Subsidiaries
Danone has achieved global B Corp certification after certifying more than 200 subsidiaries in over 60 countries, making it one of the largest multinationals to earn the designation. The accomplishment follows a decade of evaluations aimed at aligning sustainability practices across markets and embedding ESG goals throughout its workforce and supply chain.
The company said the certification reflects its efforts to expand access to quality health services for employees, advance climate commitments, share water-management expertise, promote regenerative agriculture, and strengthen community engagement around its operations.
Antoine de Saint-Affrique, CEO, Danone, said the certification underscores the company’s long-standing philosophy. “Becoming a leading B Corp company demonstrates the constant commitment to combine performance and responsibility, something that is part of our DNA,” he said. “This achievement reflects how we are placing financial and social sustainability at the center of the business.”
B Corp is a global network of companies that meet verified social and environmental standards and commit to a more equitable economic system. Danone now represents roughly 9% of the movement’s global workforce, reflecting a multi-year effort to certify subsidiaries under rigorous criteria covering governance, workers, communities, the environment, and customers.
The company highlighted that the certification builds on international initiatives to expand sustainable practices across its supply chains. These include partnerships in Malaysia to increase access to sustainable energy and the “Proyecto Margarita” program in Mexico, which supports small-scale dairy producers through sustainable milk-sourcing practices.
In recent years, Danone has joined national and international environmental initiatives to strengthen corporate responsibility. In November, following the collapse of UN Global Plastics Treaty negotiations, the company joined the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s 2030 Plastics Agenda for Business, a five-year plan to accelerate efforts to eliminate plastic waste and promote a circular economy.
Danone also participates in the Dairy Methane Action Alliance, aimed at reducing methane emissions in the dairy sector, and is a member of The Plastic Pact of Mexico (PPMX), a recycling initiative coordinated by WWF and WRAP.
