Farmacias Similares Opens First 100% Sustainable Store in Chiapas
Farmacias Similares has opened its first fully sustainable branch in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, marking a key milestone in the company’s environmental initiative, SíMiPlaneta. The store integrates renewable energy, eco-friendly water systems, and recycled construction materials to minimize its environmental footprint.
Located on Calzada al Club Campestre, the pharmacy was constructed using 10,000 recycled PET plastic bottles. A standout feature of its design is coconut fiber insulation, which enhances energy efficiency by naturally regulating indoor temperatures.
The branch generates its own electricity through solar panels and utilizes advanced water management systems. These include rainwater harvesting for non-potable uses, a humidity condenser that captures atmospheric moisture, and a biodigester for wastewater treatment. Additionally, artificial wetlands were built to naturally purify and store water.
Founded in 1997, Farmacias Similares operates over 9,600 low-cost pharmacies across Mexico and has a significant international presence with hundreds of locations in Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, and Chile.
