Heineken, Azteca to Plant 1,000 Trees in CDMX Park
Heineken México and Fundación Azteca have partnered to plant 1,000 trees across 14 hectares of Parque Cuitlahuac in Iztapalapa, Mexico City, as part of their joint initiative “A New Forest, to Provide a Better World”. The reforestation, supported by Mexico City’s Ministry of the Environment (SEDEMA), aims to revitalize urban green spaces and strengthen the city’s water balance.
Native species such as Acaciella angustissima, Agastache mexicana, Agave americana, Agave salmiana, Asclepias linaria, and Baccharis salicifolia were planted to promote groundwater recharge, improve surface runoff, and support local biodiversity.
The event was attended by Oriol Bonaclocha, CEO, Heineken México, and César Rivas Valdivia, Director of Entrepreneurship and Sustainability, Fundación Azteca. “This type of initiative, blending community and sustainability, shows how we can create joyful moments that inspire a better world,” said Claudia de la Vega, VP of Corporate Affairs, Heineken México.
In 2024, the initiative carried out nine reforestation events nationwide, planting more than 11,500 trees. For 2025, three more events are planned, continuing efforts to expand urban green areas.
The campaign supports Mexico City’s broader environmental goals, including the 2021 rehabilitation of Parque Cuitlahuac. The project saw an investment of MX$434.2 million (US$23.3 million) to enhance 82 hectares with recycled materials, wetlands, and green infrastructure.
