The Home Depot México unveiled its 2024 Sustainability Report, “Living Our Values, We Go Further,” highlighting both progress and challenges in environmental performance. The report was presented at the company’s Store Support Center in Monterrey by José A. Rodríguez, President and CEO, and Erika Díaz, Vice President of Online Sales, Marketing, and Public Relations.
Home Depot achieved a 4% reduction in Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions) from 9,472.15 tCO2e in 2023 to 9,107.47 tCO2e in 2024. However, Scope 2 emissions (indirect from energy consumption) increased from 52,485.44 tCO2e to 54,263.83 tCO2e, resulting in an overall 2% rise in total emissions, from 61,957.59 tCO2e to 63,371.30 tCO2e. Scope 3 emissions (indirect value chain emissions) are being tracked internally, but no figures were released.
Energy and resource use improvements included 41% of electricity sourced from renewables (50,517 MWh of 122,216 MWh), a 12% reduction in fuel use, and a net energy efficiency gain of roughly 9,000 GJ. Sixty-eight of 140 stores now use renewable energy, including 13 in Mexico City. In 2024, nearly 1 million pallets were reused, 3,730 tons of cardboard and 500 tons of plastic were recycled, and all branded products transitioned to polystyrene- and PVC-free packaging. Over 2,000 items were added to the Eco Option sustainable product line.
Home Depot also advanced the electrification of its forklift fleet, replacing 193 units with electric models, aiming for 295 by 2025 and full electrification by 2026. This change is projected to save 2,661,635 tCO2e, 2,012,795 L of LP gas, MX$2 million in maintenance, and MX$17 million in fuel costs.
In recognition of its efforts, Home Depot México earned its 19th consecutive Socially Responsible and Green Company distinction and Platinum status in the 2024 LACP Vision Awards, ranking among the top 20 sustainability reports in Mexico and top 100 globally.
On the social front, the company conducted 722 volunteer activities, provided over MX$66.6 million in materials and MX$26 million in financial aid to hurricane-affected communities in Guerrero, and hosted the 12th 21K Tarahumara–The Home Depot race, promoting indigenous cultural preservation and education.
“These achievements demonstrate our ongoing commitment to generate real impact in people’s lives,” said Díaz. “When we live our values, we go further.”
