Felipe Macías, Queretaro Mayor, said the city government plans to engage with Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to review environmental impact studies related to the potential construction of a Mexico–Queretaro high-speed rail station. He noted that, so far, the federal government has not issued any official notice on the project.

Macías said the municipality will remain attentive and ready to collaborate if the project is confirmed. He emphasized that the area of Los Alcanfores, where environmental analyses are reportedly concentrated, will be closely monitored. Coordination with the state government is ongoing, though the mayor stressed that final decisions rest with the federal authorities.

He added that the federal government is responsible for any complementary works needed to ensure the functionality of the station and noted that technical opinions from the city and state were submitted regarding possible station locations. However, he emphasized that federal authorities made the final decision.

“Together with the state, we submitted these technical reports and technical opinions. We did it as a team and in coordination, but always with the understanding that, at the end of the day, the decision was up to the federal government. In any scenario, we would be ready and prepared to work together on a project that will benefit the people of Queretaro,” Macías said.

Macías confirmed that all proposed options for the station were viable, but the federal government’s decision determined the final location. He added that the city has not received official details of the selected plan but is prepared to cooperate to ensure the project benefits thousands of residents.
