Beyond Salary: What the Mexican Workforce Is Looking For
Mexican workers place high value on benefits that enhance their purchasing power, health, and overall well-being, reports Edenred Mexico and the Mexican Association for Human Resources Management (AMEDIRH). The study highlights that employees seek support beyond salary, including meal vouchers, medical insurance, performance bonuses, and even assistance for their pets and life events such as weddings and childbirth.
Thirty six percent of employees would like benefits that better align with their lifestyles, highlights the report, while 23% want their employers to update existing benefits to improve working conditions. Only 18% consider their current workplace a great place to work based on benefits, with 82% stating they would not recommend their employer to others due to inadequate offerings.
The findings indicate a preference for financial and healthcare-related benefits across all age groups. Meal vouchers emerged as the most sought-after benefit (15%), followed by medical insurance (13%), performance and recognition bonuses (11%), and life insurance (10%). Professional development support and financial assistance for life events were also key priorities.
As the report’s name indicates, Perception of Employment Benefits by Generations, preferences vary by generation. Generation Z (18-27 years old) favors remote work, wellness programs, and financial aid for personal milestones, including pet insurance. Millennials (28-42 years old) and Generation X (42-58 years old) prioritize meal vouchers, medical insurance, and bonuses. Older employees, including Baby Boomers (59-79 years old), prefer financial stability, with medical insurance, life insurance, and performance bonuses ranking high.
