Q: How would you define UBITS’ current position within the Latin American HR tech ecosystem, especially in comparison to other digital platforms and Layer 2 solutions?

A: UBITS is an all-in-one HR platform that supports key talent processes across learning, development, performance, and engagement. What sets us apart is our unified, AI-powered architecture, which eliminates the fragmentation seen in many other solutions. Instead of relying on multiple tools for learning management, OKRs, or engagement surveys, we centralize these functions in a single platform, ensuring seamless communication between modules and delivering measurable organizational value.

We operate in 10 countries across Latin America, from Mexico to Chile, offering localized products tailored to each market. Our deep understanding of regional workforce dynamics positions us as a leading player in the HR tech ecosystem.

Q: What methodologies or capabilities have you developed to create truly user-centered AI products, especially when users may not fully articulate their needs?

A: Our approach begins with identifying the user's core problem, not with the technology itself. We do not apply AI for novelty; we reimagine processes to be 10 times more efficient.

Because there are no standard frameworks in AI product design, we adopt an iterative, experimental methodology. Initially, we built single-agent systems for task automation but quickly recognized the need for a multi-agent architecture. Each AI agent serves a specific role, workflow orchestration, data filtering, or content generation, and they operate collaboratively like a well-coordinated team. This modular design allows us to build scalable, high-precision solutions that address complex challenges with user-centric outcomes.

Q: What lessons have you learned about designing for failure and managing AI’s probabilistic nature in HR applications?

A: Unlike traditional software, AI produces probabilistic outputs, which means results are not always consistent even with the same input. Managing this variability requires defining what constitutes a "good enough" outcome for diverse users and contexts.

To ensure reliability, we implemented Evals, internal validation systems that gather real-time user feedback through upvotes, downvotes, and comments. These “human-in-the-loop” mechanisms reduce hallucinations and improve relevance. Additionally, continuous monitoring is essential. AI systems are not set-and-forget; they require active management to maintain trust and operational integrity.

Q: How has co-creation with clients like Jose Cuervo, Alsea, or Clip shaped your product development?

A: Co-creation is a cornerstone of our strategy. Many of our most impactful features emerged from solving specific challenges with clients. For example, José Cuervo needed scalable training for field workers with limited digital access, which led us to develop a mobile-first app with intuitive, short-form content.

With Alsea, particularly Starbucks, we build specific functionalities to deliver effective online training. Our ongoing work with Clip is shaping performance management tools tailored to tech and finance roles. These collaborations ensure our innovations are grounded in real operational needs, making them both sophisticated and highly practical.

Q: How long has UBITS been integrating AI, and how has your strategy evolved since the company’s founding?

A: Since our founding in 2018, we have used machine learning to improve our course recommendation engine. At the time, ML offered the most practical enhancement to user experience.

In 2023, we adopted an "AI-first" strategy. Today, every department, from sales to customer service, participates in weekly AI training. Embedded engineers support teams in building automation tools, and our performance reviews now include AI literacy metrics. Product roadmaps are aligned with quarterly AI-driven objectives. This cultural shift has transformed AI into a core pillar of our growth strategy.

Q: How did your background as an educator influence the founding vision of UBITS?

A: After studying engineering, I chose to teach high school algebra and later university-level engineering at Universidad de los Andes, which is Colombia’s equivalent of Tec de Monterrey.

I realized I was reaching only a privileged few, less than 0.01% of the population. That realization drove me to close the opportunity gap by creating a scalable, accessible online learning platform. UBITS was built as a B2B model where companies invest in their people’s development, offering what is essentially a scholarship for continuous learning. Our goal was to create the “Netflix of corporate training” and democratize access to skill development in Latin America.

Q: How do you see UBITS contributing to both individual growth and regional economic development?

A: We believe that continuous learning, not degrees or credentials, is the true measure of potential. Our mission is to democratize education and empower individuals to learn based on curiosity, adaptability, and relevance to their goals.

By equipping people to perform better, align with company culture, and make smarter talent decisions, we help organizations increase productivity, retention, and long-term growth. At scale, this translates into positive economic impact across the region.

Q: Can you tell us about Skilled and the AI initiatives you are leading?

A: Skilled is our ongoing educational initiative to train HR leaders on emerging topics. During the pandemic, we focused on well-being and remote work; today, we emphasize artificial intelligence.

One standout effort is our “Blue Brunch” series. In Mexico, for instance, we bring HR leaders together and guide them through building their first AI agent in just three hours, whether it is for recommending learning paths, analyzing performance data, or providing feedback. The goal is to empower HR professionals to become drivers of digital transformation, not just responders to it.

Q: How has content personalization evolved, and what role will AI play in its future?

A: Training has moved from standardized, in-person sessions to hybrid, flexible, and personalized formats. We offer content from global institutions like Harvard, Stanford, Google, and Microsoft, alongside our own video, audio, and certification modules.

AI now allows us to add a deeper level of personalization. We are transitioning from content recommendation to conversational interfaces. Imagine an AI agent asking, “What do you want to learn today?” and crafting a learning path tailored to your role, preferences, and goals. This is a shift toward guided, adaptive learning that meets people where they are.

Q: How do you foresee the evolution of People Analytics, particularly as AI interfaces begin to replace dashboards?

A: People Analytics is evolving from static dashboards to dynamic, conversational interfaces. In the near future, leaders will query AI in natural language and receive detailed analyses without needing to interpret complex dashboards.

This transformation will significantly enhance decision-making agility. However, it requires companies to align their data, behaviors, and competencies with strategic goals. AI can surface insights, but organizations must be ready to act on them effectively.

Q: In your view, how should companies redefine the strategic role of HR, and how is UBITS supporting that shift?

A: HR should not be the sole executor of talent processes; leaders are ultimately responsible for recruiting, developing, and managing their teams. HR’s role is to empower both leaders and employees with the right tools and insights.

Our products reflect this philosophy. For example, our 360 feedback tool not only gathers input but provides actionable recommendations for managers to improve team performance. We design solutions that serve the entire organization, not just HR departments.

Q: Has UBITS considered expanding into a B2C or open-access model for lifelong learning?

A: While our primary focus remains on delivering high-impact B2B solutions, a B2C model could help us reach a broader audience. The challenge lies in maintaining quality, sustaining a viable business model, and adapting content to diverse users.

That said, the opportunity to democratize learning beyond the workplace is compelling and aligns closely with our founding vision.

UBITS is a comprehensive software, designed to streamline all key HR processes in a single platform. It enables efficient talent development through 14,000 learning resources, diagnostics, goal tracking, and 360° evaluations.
