Mexico recorded the highest growth in Generative AI course enrollments in Latin America, according to Coursera’s 2025 Global Skills Report. The country saw a 356% year-over-year increase, significantly outpacing the global average of 195% and the North American average of 135%.

The report, now in its seventh edition, is based on data from Coursera’s community of over 170 million learners worldwide. It examines emerging skill trends across more than 100 countries, offering insight into national workforce readiness in business, technology, and data science. Mexico ranked 79th globally in overall skill proficiency and 14th in Latin America. Mexican learners showed an 82% proficiency in business skills, 79% in technology, and 71% in data science.

Christian Hernandez, Latin America Director, Coursera, says that the country’s rapid increase in Generative AI enrollments reflects a proactive attitude toward the changing labor market. “An increase of 356% in GenAI enrollments shows people are not just aware of the future of work — they are preparing for it,” he says.

The surge in digital learning in Mexico corresponds to broader workforce trends. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, 95% of Mexican companies expect AI tools to transform operations by 2030, one of the highest expected AI-driven change rates globally. Mexico also faces a growing demand for tech professionals, with roles such as data analysts and scientists increasing by 47% annually.

“Mexico is well positioned to fully harness the transformative potential of AI to drive productivity, innovation, and economic growth in the coming years,” writes Julio Velázquez, Managing Director, Google Cloud Mexico, on MBN.

Enrollment growth was not limited to Generative AI. Coursera also reported a 94% increase in cybersecurity course registrations. These shifts come amid growing cybersecurity concerns in the region. According to the Cybersecurity Intelligence Center’s 2025 report, Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina account for over 73% of ransomware attacks across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Despite these advances, challenges remain. "In Latin America and Mexico, the most prominent trend is the rise of Generative AI. However, the return on investment in this area has yet to reach its full potential," says Santiago Faisten, Head of Latin America, SAS, to MBN.

The report also highlights persistent gender gaps in Generative AI skills and underlines the need to expand access to career-relevant credentials. It also emphasizes the rising importance of human skills, such as problem-solving and communication, as essential complements to technical training in the AI era.
