Nuevo León Emphasizes the Importance of Occupational Health
The State of Nuevo León hosted the 2024 State Occupational Health and Safety Week, a series of conferences focused on improving workplace safety, productivity, and employee well-being. Organized by Nuevo León’s Ministry of Labor, the event aimed to educate workers on various key topics, including social security benefits, emergency response, workplace safety, and ergonomics.
The objective of the 2024 State Occupational Health and Safety Week aimed to provide workers with the training and knowledge necessary to prevent workplace risks. The Government of Nuevo León, business leaders, and labor unions, underscored the importance of collaboration across sectors to ensure safer, healthier working environments for all, as reported by Nuevo León’s Government.
Occupational health is preventive and concentrates on the well-being of workers and their work environment. For this reason, Fernando Escobedo, Director of Civil Protection in Guadalupe, emphasized the importance of first aid and CPR training in the workplace. Through videos and interactive activities, he demonstrated how workers can stabilize injured individuals and provide immediate assistance until professional medical help arrives.
Meanwhile, Raúl Sifuentes, Director of Safety & Wellbeing, KIA Mexico, discussed workplace risks and the importance of safety protocols. He stressed the need for proper equipment use, following safety guidelines, and taking precautions when handling hazardous materials to prevent accidents.
“Many companies are adopting more rigorous safety measures, such as the use of technology and training programs to reduce the risk of accidents in the workplace. They are also focusing on employee training on occupational hazards and the importance of following safety policies and procedures,” Eduardo Medeiros, CEO, Welbe told MBN.
During the event it was also highlighted the importance of maintaining proper posture, using tools correctly, and taking regular breaks. These practices can reduce injury risks, improve worker efficiency, and support better physical and mental health, according to ergonomics expert, Diego Rodríguez.
Additionally, Jonathan Nestor, a social security expert, explained the medical coverage and benefits available through IMSS after employment ends. He also helped workers understand how they can maintain healthcare coverage and access other social security provisions during unemployment.
