Queretaro, AWS Partner to Launch Girls Tech Mexico
The Municipality of Queretaro, in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), has launched Girls Tech Mexico, a program designed to encourage the participation of young women in science and technology. The initiative began with over 300 students from COBAQ Plantel 1 taking part in workshops and demonstrations as part of the Amazon Girls’ Tech Day, marking the program’s first edition in the country.
According to Rodrigo Ruiz, Director of Innovation and Technology, Municipality of Queretaro, the collaboration aligns with Queretaro’s broader strategy to strengthen digital inclusion and innovation. “Queretaro is today a technological seedbed at the national level. This collaboration with Amazon reflects the commitment to provide equal opportunities for young women and to drive local talent toward a digital future,” says Ruiz.
The program, which runs from November 2025 through March 2026, will take place in 10 public high schools across Queretaro. It will feature immersive experiences aimed at closing the gender gap in technology and developing digital skills among female students. Participants will take part in basic programming and robotics workshops, create binary-coded bracelets, experiment with Arduino devices, and attend conferences led by women in the tech sector.
At the end of the program, students will receive certificates recognizing their participation in the first Girls Tech Mexico cohort. The initiative seeks to foster early interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) among girls and young women, and to strengthen pathways into future technological careers.
The launch also underscores Queretaro’s growing role as a national technology hub. The state hosts 15 data centers, with 37 more projected in the coming years, backed by accumulated investments of about US$12 billion since 2009. The upcoming AWS Region in Mexico, expected to represent an additional US$5 billion investment, is set to further reinforce Queretaro’s position in the country’s digital infrastructure network.
Through this collaboration, Amazon and the Municipality of Queretaro aim to expand access to technology education and promote gender equity in the sector. By targeting students across public high schools, Girls Tech Mexico is expected to reach hundreds of young women over its first edition, contributing to a more inclusive and digitally skilled generation in Queretaro.
