Swiss firms will continue working with Mexico to support progress toward universal health coverage, aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, according to the Swiss-Mexican Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“Mexico is Switzerland’s main trading partner in Latin America, and nearly 48% of exports from Switzerland to Mexico are pharmaceutical and chemical products,” said Karina Lerma, President, Swiss-Mexican Chamber. Lerma added that Swiss pharmaceutical and chemical industries are globally recognized for innovation and technical leadership.

The reaffirmation of bilateral cooperation was made during the forum, The Future of Health in Mexico and the World: Best Practices and Reflections for Achieving Universal Health Coverage, where Lerma emphasized the role of international exchange in addressing global health challenges intensified by environmental crises and structural inequality.

Swiss participation in Mexico's health system has grown over the last five years through public-private initiatives and knowledge transfer programs, reports Forbes. One ongoing project involves collaboration with Roche, where experts from Swiss universities provide technical and academic support to Mexican public and private sector representatives. The goal is to contribute not only technology, innovation, and medical supplies, but also share values centered on quality, access, and solidarity.

The Swiss-Mexican Chamber currently represents over 60 companies operating in Mexico, which together generate approximately 50,000 direct jobs. Through its Health and Innovation Committee, the chamber facilitates dialogue between businesses, academic institutions, and health authorities, acting as a platform for policy collaboration and technical exchange.

Lerma noted that Swiss companies are prepared to maintain a long-term presence in Mexico’s healthcare development. “We are ready to collaborate with a long-term vision,” she said, stressing that global partnerships are necessary to strengthen national health systems.
