UK Develops Quantum Atomic Clock to Boost Military Precision and Security
The United Kingdom has developed a quantum atomic clock to enhance military operations by providing precise timekeeping and reducing reliance on GPS. Built by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), the clock will improve navigation, communications, and weapon system accuracy. The clock will be deployed in military operations within five years, with future research focusing on miniaturization for broader use across defense sectors.
OpenAI Restructures to Advance AGI Mission with New Corporate Model
OpenAI is restructuring its corporate model to support its mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits humanity. The plan includes transitioning its for-profit arm into a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) to raise capital and balance stakeholder interests. This change will enable sustainable growth and advance OpenAI’s mission through both commercial and charitable efforts.
Quisitive to Be Acquired by H.I.G. Capital for US$117.1 million
Quisitive Technology Solutions is set to be acquired by H.I.G. Capital for US$117.1 million, with shareholders receiving US$0.38 per share, a 57.1% premium. The deal follows a strategic review and is expected to close in 1Q25, pending shareholder and court approvals.
POET Technologies Acquires Full Control of SPX to Boost Optical Engine Production
POET Technologies has acquired full control of Super Photonics Integrated Circuit Xiamen (SPX), previously a joint venture with Sanan. This strengthens POET’s capacity to produce optical engines for high-speed transceivers used in AI clusters. The acquisition includes a US$6.5 million payment to Sanan and US$3.8 million for production equipment.
Doosung Tech to Invest US$24 Million in New Plant in Monclova
Monclova Mayor Mario Dávila announced that South Korean Doosung Tech will open a US$24 million plant in Monclova, Coahuila, in January 2025, creating 200 jobs. The plant will produce electronic components for electric vehicle batteries, targeting the US and Latin American markets. The project is expected to attract more investments, potentially generating up to 1,000 additional jobs by 2025.
