YouTube, Claro Sports Renew Broadcast Partnership for Paris 2024
The partnership between YouTube and Claro Sports will continue for the broadcasting of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This renewed agreement extends the collaboration that both companies had during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the Olympic events both onsite and across various Latin American countries.
According to Joe Aboumrad, director, Claro Sports, the coverage will feature teams of reporters and cameramen equipped with Live View technology to ensure extensive coverage of the 41 competition venues in the French city.
The broadcast will reach a total of 17 countries. Additionally, installations will be set up in iconic locations such as a terraces overlooking the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.
The Tokyo 2020 experience provided key data for planning the 2024 coverage. During the Tokyo Olympics, Claro Sports achieved 600 million YouTube views and 120 million hours viewed. Aboumrad noted that, although the pandemic has made precise predictions challenging, audience growth is anticipated, particularly through Smart TV viewership, as reported by Expansión.
To enhance user experience, YouTube will introduce specific updates for the event, including the Multiview feature, allowing users to follow up to four events simultaneously on the Claro Sports channel. Additionally, over 2,000 highlight clips of approximately 10 minutes each will be produced to offer on-demand content for those who cannot watch live broadcasts. The YouTube platform will also integrate medal table details and competition schedule into its search engine.
In parallel, Telcel, part of the same conglomerate as Claro Sports, will introduce a special recharge plan allowing users to stream unlimited Claro Sports content for MX$15 (US$.84).
