Ampure Expands EV Charger Production in Silao
Ampure, a leading provider of EV charging solutions, inaugurated a new production line in Silao, Guanajuato, and received Ford Motor Company’s prestigious Q1 certification, underscoring its commitment to quality and electromobility in Mexico.
The expansion represents an investment of US$4 million and is expected to create over 300 direct jobs, said Claudia Villaseñor, Guanajuato’s Minister of Economy. Villaseñor described the recognition as “the maximum standard in quality and excellence.”
Ampure Charging Systems Guanajuato operates within the VYNMSA Guanajuato Industrial Park in Silao. Originally built by Webasto Charging Solutions, the plant was acquired by US-based Transom Capital Group in April 2024. It produces portable and wall-mounted EV chargers, including models compatible with the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the E-Transit.
The plant spans 12,000m2 and sits on a 23,500m2 site. With a prior US$51.6 million investment in 2023, the new expansion strengthens its production capacity to 440,000 units annually, with exports exceeding US$70 million. Ampure supplies global brands including Ford, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru, sourcing 34% of materials locally to support companies such as IMI MX, Kimball, and Sunningdale.
Ford Q1 Certification: A Mark of Excellence
The Q1 certification from Ford signifies the highest standard of quality, logistics performance, and customer satisfaction among its global suppliers. The distinction recognizes companies that consistently meet rigorous operational, management, and continuous improvement metrics. Past recipients, such as Thyssenkrupp Materials de México, have leveraged the recognition to strengthen their strategic position in Ford’s supply chain and pursue opportunities with other OEMs.
Expanding the EV Vision
The transition from Webasto Charging Solutions to Ampure reflects Transom Capital Group’s strategy to become a key player in the global electromobility sector. The acquisition included operations in the United States, Germany, and Mexico, focusing on maintaining world-class standards and developing new EV charging solutions.
“EV charging is at the forefront of the global transition to EVs, and Ampure presents a unique opportunity to invest in a significant-scale business with a strong product portfolio,” said Russ Roenick, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Transom Capital, in April 2024.
This production line contributes to Guanajuato’s robust automotive ecosystem, which hosts more than 400 investment projects, over 145,000 specialized jobs, and more than US$21.7 billion invested. This US-Mexico partnership continues to grow, with 92 US-backed projects in the state generating over 31,000 jobs and more than US$5.3 billion in investment.
In related news, MBN reported earlier this month that the growth of the EV ecosystem is also evident in domestic production and infrastructure development. From January to April 2025, Mexico produced 81,049 EVs, up 72.2% from the same period in 2024. If trends continue, annual production could surpass 250,000 units, exceeding the 206,870 assembled in 2024 by over 21%.
The 2025 Electromobility Mapping identified 439 active companies in the sector — including suppliers, manufacturers, and buyers — across 29 technical categories. This marks a 37.1% increase over the previous mapping, with more than 100 new companies entering the market in under a year.
Charging infrastructure has also expanded. As of June 2025, Mexico had 51,860 EV charging positions — a 15% increase from 45,055 at the end of 2024. Of this, 3,665 are public access points and 48,195 are private, primarily residential. Public infrastructure grew by 10.35% in the first half of the year, with more fast-charging options available in urban areas and along highways.
