Judd Wire, a subsidiary of the Japanese conglomerate Sumitomo Electric, inaugurated a new production line at the Vesta Industrial Park in Aguascalientes, marking the second phase of its expansion with a US$32 million investment.

The ceremony, led by Judd Wire President Fuminobu Furukawa, formalized the start of operations for the new phase, which strengthens the company’s presence in the state and underscores Sumitomo Electric’s confidence in Mexico. Executives from the group, who are recognized as one of Japan’s leading industrial conglomerates, attended the event.

“Mexico offers an ideal environment for investment thanks to its economic stability, strategic location, and skilled workforce,” Furukawa said. He highlighted Aguascalientes’ competitive advantages in security, efficiency, and labor quality, which continue to attract new investment and technological development.

Focused on producing high-tech cables for the automotive industry, Judd Wire will increase its production capacity to meet growing demand for components for electric vehicles amid the global shift toward electromobility. The expansion is expected to generate more than 40 specialized jobs, adding to the 200 positions created during the first phase.

Aguascalientes, Japan Strengthens Cooperation Ties

MBN reported that Governor Teresa Jiménez met with representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Parliamentary Vice Minister Arfiya Eri back in August.

The meeting focused on strengthening ties in foreign investment, advanced manufacturing, technical education and cultural exchange. Jiménez emphasized her administration’s commitment to positioning Aguascalientes as a reliable and attractive hub for international collaboration.

“We are working to consolidate Aguascalientes as a destination of trust and opportunity for foreign direct investment,” Jiménez said, noting the historic and strategic relationship between Mexico and Japan.

Eri highlighted Aguascalientes’ importance to Japanese companies, particularly in the automotive and manufacturing industries. “Aguascalientes has relevance for Japanese enterprises,” she said.

As part of her visit, she toured Nissan’s facilities in Aguascalientes, highlighting the automaker’s role in making the state a global automotive hub. Eri’s visit underscored the long-standing alliance between the two countries and highlighted Nissan’s role in shaping Aguascalientes as a global automotive hub.

To date, Nissan has produced more than 16 million vehicles in Mexico, positioning its plants as benchmarks for world-class manufacturing practices. From Aguascalientes, Nissan exports to more than 70 international markets across the Americas, Europe and Asia, strengthening the state’s role as a key export node.
