Michoacan’s new Bajío Industrial Park, located in Zinapecuaro, could generate up to 27,000 direct jobs and over 40,000 indirect jobs over the next 10 years, the Ministry of Economic Development (SEDECO) reports.

Claudio Méndez, Head, SEDECO Michoacan, says that the project aims to establish itself as a driver of economic and social well-being for the metropolitan area of Morelia. "The new Economic Development Hub for Well-Being will not only attract productive investments but will also promote the creation of complementary services that will directly benefit the local population," he says.

Businesses interested in participating and investing in the park’s development include health clinics, daycare centers, shopping centers, hotels, and restaurants. Additionally, work is already underway for the installation of electrical substations for the National Guard barracks.

The industrial park will have investment projects related to the construction of roads, bridges, service stations, housing, and heavy transport stops. According to Méndez, these initiatives are part of agreements and pre-feasibility studies that have been coordinated with the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development (SEDATU).

The industrial park will span nearly 350ha, positioning itself as one of Mexico’s most important industrial hubs, with the goal of attracting both national and international investment. Incorporating strategic rail, road, and port connectivity, the park aims to boost industrialization and generate high-value jobs in the region.

Early this month, MBN reported that Michoacan government officials and members of the private sector welcomed the Bajio Industrial Park, the country’s inaugural economic development hub designed to boost regional investment and jobs. The Bajío Industrial Park is one of the 15 “Economic Development for Wellbeing” hubs introduced under Plan México.

"The Bajío Industrial Park will position Michoacan as a competitive and attractive state for investment," says Méndez.

Last month, the Bajío Industrial Park was officially recognized by Governor of Michoacan Alfredo Ramírez as Mexico’s second-largest “Economic Development Hub for Well-Being.” The project is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s Plan México. Unveiled June 26, it includes 15 development poles to boost industry, services, and tourism across 14 Mexican states through national and foreign investment.

Ramírez says that the Bajío Industrial Park will directly benefit Morelia and northern Michoacan due to its strategic location along the Guadalajara–Mexico City highway, just 5km from Morelia International Airport. Its designation as a “recinto fiscalizado estratégico” – or dry port – further enhances its logistical appeal.

The park also features direct rail connectivity to the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, enabling competitive shipping times to the United States and extending trade routes to Asia.

Designed for sectors including agribusiness, logistics, manufacturing, and the automotive industry, the park offers industrial land, environmental feasibility, access to water, and clean electricity. “The Bajío Industrial Park meets all the conditions to attract sustainable and environmentally responsible companies from around the world,” says Ramírez.
